The conflicts reshaping the Middle East between October 7th, 2023 and December 2025, have exacted a staggering toll, most importantly in lives lost, as well as in economic losses and damages that will take generations to repair. Below is a mapping of the human and financial cost of war across six polities: Egypt,, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria.
Syria remains the region’s largest displacement crisis, but Palestine and Lebanon have seen dramatic surges since late 2023. By late 2025, nearly 1.4 million people remained displaced within Lebanon alone–a country
of only 5.8 million, while nearly the entire population of Gaza saw multiple forced displacements.
Israel’s per capita military spending has grown to nearly $3000 in 2024, nearly 27 times that of Lebanon and 73 times that of Egypt, reflecting the assymmetry across the region’s security landscape.
