Roula Mikhael

Roula Mikhael is the founder and Executive Director of the Beirut-based Maharat Foundation, which operates Maharat-News. With over 20 years of experience in journalism, media development, and civil society engagement in challenging environments, she has a strong focus on human rights, freedom of expression, and peace-building in the MENA region. Mikhael has led Maharat in addressing freedom of expression issues both locally and internationally, chaired the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX) board from 2017-2019, and founded the Digital Media Viability Lab to support independent media platforms. She has contributed to numerous research and policy papers and is actively involved in the Global Forum for Media Development and the Lebanese Multistakeholder Advisory Group.
